During Wednesday's Apple press conference, CEO Steve Jobs took a not-too-subtle shot at Google and its Android platform. Google responded.

Most Apple press conferences start off with some statistics and state-of-the-company type stuff. Wednesday was no different, and Jobs noted that Apple is activating 230,000 iOS-based devices per day. He made sure to specify that that's 230,000 new devices being activated each day. That figure includes iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches. Google's CEO Eric Schmidt recently let fly that the company is activating 200,000 new Android handsets per day. That number has swelled significantly since January of this year, when Google bragged of activating 60,000 Android handsets per day.

Steve Jobs said, "We think some of our friends are counting upgrades in their numbers." In other words, Jobs implied that the 200,000 figure touted by Google includes devices that are being upgraded from Android 2.1 to Android 2.2, for example. Google says no way.

A Google spokesperson to Fortune, "The Android activation numbers do not include upgrades and are, in fact, only a portion of the Android devices in the market since we only include devices that have Google services."

In other words, Google says it is under reporting the actual number of Android-based devices being activated each day.

Either way you look at it, 230,000 iOS devices and 200,000 Android devices being activated each day is impressive.

For comparison's sake, nearly 300,000 Symbian devices are being sold per day, at the rate of 207 per minute or over three per second. Sales that brisk adds up to 9 million Symbian devices sold per month.

Google and its partners sell 1 million Android handsets every five days, 6 million every 30 days, or 18 million every calendar quarter.

Allah Rakha Rahman ( A R Rahman) born 6 January 1966 as A. S. Dileep Kumar) is an Indian Tamil film music composer, record producer, musician and singer. His film scoring career began in the early 1990s. He has won fourteen Filmfare Awards, four National Film Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, two Grammy Awards, two Oscar award and two Academy Awards.

Working in India's various film industries, international cinema and theatre, by 2004, Rahman, in a career spanning over a decade, had sold more than 150 million records of his film scores and soundtracks worldwide,and sold over 200 million cassettes, making him one of the world's all-time top selling recording artists.

Time magazine has referred to him as the "Mozart of Madras" and several Tamil commentators have coined him the nickname Isai Puyal (Music Storm). In 2009, the magazine placed Rahman in the Time 100 list of World's Most Influential People.

Film Music and soundtracks:

In 1992, Rahman began his own music recording and mixing studio attached to the backyard of his house called the Panchathan Record Inn, which was developed into India's most advanced recording studio. 

 

He initially composed music jingles for advertisements, Indian Television channels and music scores in documentaries, among other projects. 

 

In 1992, he was approached by film director Mani Ratnam to compose the score and soundtrack for Ratnam's Tamil film Roja.

Social Service:

 

A R Rahman is involved in various charitable causes. In 2004, he was appointed as the Global Ambassador of the Stop TB Partnership, a project by WHO. He has shown support to charities including Save the Children, India, and worked with Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam for his song "Indian Ocean".

AR RAHMAN'S JAI HO CONCERT WORLD TOUR 2010

A.R. Rahman, best known for his work on the score for the Academy Award-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire," announced  on Mar. 4, that he will embark on a world tour this summer.

The "A.R. Rahman Jai Ho Concert: The Journey Home World Tour" kicked off June 11 at the Nassau Coliseum in New York and will span 16 major cities worldwide.

For the trek, Rahman is collaborating with creative director Amy Tinkham, who has worked to create concerts for Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys and Mariah Carey. 

The tour will not only feature Rahman's music, but also dance arrangements and acrobatics inspired by his native India. A press release described the concert as a "theatrical experience" utilizing "new technologies."

The announcement comes after Rahman took part in the 2010 remake of "We Are The World" to benefit Haiti.

Performances on the A.R. Rahman Jai Ho Concert: The Journey Home World Tour will include songs from Slumdog Millionaire as well as the Indian films Lagaan, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Dil Se, Rang De Basanti and Roja'.

South Korean and US Troops Are Getting Ready for Possible North Korean Attack

Troops of both South Korea and United-states have started military drills in case of a North Korean attack. No less than 56,000 South Korean soldiers and 30,000 US troops are training in South Korea and abroad. Taj hotel opens again after 2008 attack,reopens on 15th August 2010

After the dramatic devastation of 26/11,Taj hotel sets to reopen with a new beginning on the eve of Independence Day,i.e 15th August 2010.

Two years back The 105 years old listed building was burnt on fire in which 175 people died  and  308  left seriously wounded.

When the 60-hour siege had ended, the hotel stood in ruin, bullet-torn, engulfed in flames, with a severely damaged roof. This weekend though, the Taj hotel opens once again, with more luster than ever after undergoing extensive renovations.

   

"This flagship property, this venerable Old Lady, is going to reopen in the same glory, the same splendor of more than 100 years," said Ratan Tata, chairman of the hotel group, who promised to "rebuild every inch" of the iconic building."It was a cast of thousands that undertook the extensive restoration and sensitive restoration of the hotel, staying true to the original design and spirit," he said.

Building up the whole creation took at least 21 months to be normal again and costs up to $38 million in repairs, an amount which the hotel says it more than lost in business while closed down for reconstruction.

The average room rate will be Rs 20,000-22,000 per night and the hotel expects an occupancy rate of 72 per cent on the first day of the opening, Bickson said. Of the total cost, the company had received Rs 180-crore from the insurance companies as claim money, he said.

"I cannot tell you how significant today is for the spirit of Mumbai and for our staff that the Heritage wing is reopening after what we went through," said Raymond Bickson, CEO, Taj Hotels.
