Earthquake measures 7.1 magnitude in Equador. Shakes South America on August 12 2010

Another large earthquake has been measured in what appears to be a very active year.  This latest jolt measured 7.1 on the Richter Scale at 7:54 am EDT or 6:54 local time.  The US Geological Survey calculated that it was 131 miles (211 km) below the surface, and 110 miles southeast of Quito.  

This is the largest quake to hit South America since the 8.8 magnitude quake hit of of the coast of Chile earlier this year on February 27th.
