Since the unveiling of the new Rupee symbol, users were first able to use the new symbol in writings, which was followed by being able to use the symbol on websites using an API. But what about the mobile device which is used by one and all? With SMS being one of the most used VAS service in India, and with the number of users accessing the internet via mobiles, sooner or later, a mobile company were bound to introduce the “Rupee Key”. Lava Mobiles has become the first company to launch the Rupee Key on the Lava B-5 model.
In the image above, the phone on the right is the original Lava B-5 which has a Dollar symbol below the ‘S’ key. The new B-5s will be rolled out with the Rupee symbol replacing the Dollar symbol, as can be seen in the phone on the left in the image. This is definitely a great step by Lava Mobiles and other mobile brands will only follow suite.
How will Lava benefit?
Lava Mobiles barely make the top 10 mobile handset brands in India. The launch of the Lava B-5 with the Rupee symbol is definitely a step by the mobile brand to rise up the ranks in the aforementioned stat. If they manage to do it or not, only time will be able to answer that.
The point to be noted is that, as mentioned above, other mobile manufacturers will only follow suite which means sooner or later, most mobiles will have this key.
